Fugro Oceanor provides a Wavescan buoy for Iceland

The Icelandic Meteorological Institute (Vedurstofa) has procured a Wavescan buoy from Fugro Oceanor to be deployed approximately at position 68 deg 30 min N and 9 deg W, 1100 meter water depth. Every hour the buoy measures standard metocean parameters and transmits the data set to shore utilizing the Iridium satellite communication system. The data from the buoy is fed directly into the GTS (Global Telecommunication System), a network used by WMO (World Meteorological Organization) to circulate real time observations.

The buoy is furnished with a detailed Users Manual for all components provided describing the assembly and operation of the component to a great detail. Service and maintenance procedures are well described in the manual and by the sensor vendor documents. This allowed the technical staff at the Icelandic Meteorological Institute to assemble the buoy after receiving the shipment and subsequently to deploy the buoy without any assistance from Fugro Oceanor staff.
